BLAH BLAH BLAH ILLEGAL, RABBLE RABBLE SHOULDN'T, BLAH BLAH YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.
Here Goes:
1. Download mirc, if you don't already have it.
-note- Mirc, for those of you who don't know, is a client program for accessing IRC, which stands for Internet Relay Chat. Its basically hundreds of chat rooms, of almost any topic.
2. Install and open Mirc.
3. Fill in the info it ask on the window that pops up with whatever.
4. On the left of that same window, click on 'DCC' . Change 'Show Get Dialog' to 'Auto-get file and'. Click okay on the warning window that appears. This keeps those annoying windows from popping up and confirming a download.
5. Next, click on 'Ignore', which is beneath 'DCC' on the left. Change 'Method' to disabled, and uncheck 'Turn ignore back on'
-note- I only use mirc for the purpose of downloading books, and I've never had any problems with the settings i just detailed. Maybe on other channels those setting keep your computer from being infected by malware and viruses, but if that's so i don't know of it. Use your common sense and don't come crying to me if you pick wrong.
6. On the left, click on 'Connect', then 'Servers' underneath it. Change 'IRC Network:' to 'Undernet' and 'IRC Server:' to which ever you wish. I leave it on 'Random US server'.
7. Now click on 'Connect to server'. It may take a while, and a window saying 'Unable to connect to server' may pop up even though it does connect, so just close it.
8. Once you connect to undernet and after a lot of annoying beeps, a window by the name of 'mIRC Favorites' opens. Type "bookz", and then click on 'Join', after which this window closes and 'bookz' channel window opens.
9. To search for your book, type "@seek or @search *relevant searchwords here*".
For example: @seek rowling azkaban.
A bright green message will be seen in the channel window, and lots of those anoying beebs as well, confirming that your search has been accepted. It will then send you a file with the results of your query in a .rar or a .zip file(see note below). A warning message pops up when it's done downloading ( i suggest you uncheck 'Always show this warning' ). Click 'Open' .
-note- .rar and .zip files are opened by WinRAR, a program that compresses certain types of files into smaller files, and decompresses them back. It's generally considered better than WinZIP, as it compresses files smaller, opens both .zip and .rar files, and has more functions.
10. Once you open the .txt file, you should many different lines, similar to this:
!EBrarian J.k. Rowling - [Harry Potter 03] - Prisoner Of Azkaban [txt].rar ::INFO:: 141.54 KB
The first part,
!EBrarian
is the server. There are many different servers, and in my experience only a few work for any given person. Try until you suceed.
The second,
J.k. Rowling - [Harry Potter 03] - Prisoner Of Azkaban [txt].rar
is the title of the novel or audiobook. It usually describes it's file type as well. For example, this is a .txt file, opened by any word processor. There are also pdf, rtf, doc, lit, and many more. You should download only the files with which you have the programs to open(obviously).
Third,
::INFO:: 141.54 KB
Is the size of the file. Most are from 100kb to 1mb, but there are exceptions.
11. Copy one of the lines, but only the server name and the title, and paste it to the #bookz window in mirc.
For example, this is the full line:
!EBrarian J.k. Rowling - [Harry Potter 03] - Prisoner Of Azkaban [txt].rar ::INFO:: 141.54 KiB
This is the part you should copy:
!EBrarian J.k. Rowling - [Harry Potter 03] - Prisoner Of Azkaban [txt].rar
You'll probably need to do this a few times with diferent server lines, as some servers don't seem to work. If it does work, you'll get a message from the server informing you that your search has been accepted, and your place in the queue. It may take a while for your request to be accepted and for your file to be sent to you.
12. Once it is sent, it's exactly like the search file sent before. Open it and your ebook is inside. Congratulations, you've downloaded your first pirate ebook from #bookz.
